The results revealed that among the schoolchildren who completed the QPGS-III, 27.3% met the criteria for a FGID according to the Rome III criteria. While functional constipation was the most common FGID (12.6%), irritable bowel syndrome (6.4%) was the most common FGID associated with abdominal pain. On the other hand, was no significant difference in the prevalence of FGIDs was observed between sexes. Hence, it was concluded that there existed a high prevalence of FGIDs among school-aged children and adolescents.
